Bethany Bobbs is currently pursuing her bachelors degree in cello performance with Joel Krosnick and Astrid Schween at The Juilliard School with the Jerome L. Greene Fellowship. Throughout high school, Bethany studied with Astrid Schween and Sieun Lin as a scholarship recipient at the Juilliard Pre-College Program. In 2016, Bethany attended the Music Institute of Chicago Academy under the tutelage of Tanya Carey.
Bethany made her piano solo orchestral debut at the age of 8 and her cello solo orchestral debut at the age of 9, performing with the Cleveland Institute of Music Chamber Orchestra. Since then, she has won the opportunity to solo with the Houston Symphony, Missouri Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Newark Symphony, Georgia Philharmonic Symphony, Delaware Symphony, Yonkers Symphony, Ocala Symphony, Adelphi Orchestra, Ambler Symphony, New Jersey Intergenerational Symphony, Old York Road Symphony, Nova Sinfonietta, Summit Symphony, The Fort Bend Symphony, Brazosport Symphony, The Houston Symphony of the North, The Houston Youth Symphony, and The Sewanee Music Festival Orchestra. In 2014, Bethany won 3rd place in the prestigious Houston Symphony League Concerto Competition as the youngest competitor. In 2016, Bethany won 1st place in the National Federation of Music Teachers Association Stillman Kelly NFMC Award as well as the Mary Alice Cox Cello Award. As a winner in the National YoungArts Competition, Bethany was invited to attend their YoungArts Week in New York City in 2019. In 2020, Bethany won 1st place in the Vernell Gregg National Young Artist competition as well as placed in 2nd in the Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition. Recently, Bethany was awarded the Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund, Michael R Edwards NFMC Graduating Senior Award, King’s Peak Music Competition, Friday Morning Scholarship Award, Menges Scholarship of the Arts Award, Suburban Music Study Scholarship, and won first place in LISMA International Senior String Competition.
Bethany has attended many prestigious summer music festivals including Heifetz International Music Institute, Aspen Music Festival, Indiana Summer String Academy, Sewanee Music Festival, Conservatory Music in the Mountains, and the Interlochen Arts Academy- Advanced Junior String Program. At the age of 14, Bethany was accepted into the Perlman Music Program.She attended every year from 2017-2021, studying with Astrid Schween, Clara Kim, Paul Katz, and Zvi Plesser, as well as traveling to Florida and Israel with the program.
An avid chamber musician, Bethany regularly performs with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players in New York City alongside musicians such as Paul Neubauer, Cynthia Phelps, Stella Chen, Brannon Cho, and many others. In January of 2022, Bethany was selected to participate in Juilliard’s ChamberFest, where she performed Beethoven’s Septet in E flat major. In 2015, Bethany’s Houston chamber group won the elite Houston Young Artist Award. Bethany has performed in masterclasses for notorious cellists including Steve Doane, Clive Greensmith, Richard Aaron, Natasha Brofsky, Brinton Smith, Yeesun Kim, Joshua Roman, Richard Weiss, Desmond Hoebig, and Stephen Balderson.
Besides performing, Bethany enjoys using her musical talent to help others and has been recognized by The Strad and The ViolinChannel for her benefit concerts. In 2020, Bethany and her twin sister, Susanna, put on a virtual fundraising concert known as Harmony for Healing to provide funds for the Artist Relief project that financially aids unemployed artists during COVID-19. Recently in 2022, Harmony for Healing organized a benefit concert for Ukrainian refugees in need of medical supplies and humanitarian aid. In 2015-2017, Bethany was awarded the Doing Good Music Scholarship for her charitable concerts, which included performing for cancer clinics, preschools, and retirement homes. In 2022, Bethany was selected to participate in the Gluck Community Service Fellowship at The Juilliard School, where she performs alongside her peers at senior citizen residencies and hospitals. Along with her solo and chamber career, Bethany has always enjoyed working with children. She has been teaching piano and cello since the age of 11, and currently has a cello studio of 8 young cellists. On the weekend, Bethany mentors the Juilliard Pre-college String Ensemble, where she works with talented, young cellists between the ages of 9-14.
